Pancakes for breakfast…pancakes for lunch…pancakes for dinner. It’s National Pancake Day and we’re battering up for a day filled with golden flapjacks drizzled with maple syrup.

Today from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m., just walk into any IHOP and get a free stack of buttermilk pancakes. In return, the restaurant is asking for a voluntary donation to the Children’s Miracle Network.

One hundred percent of your donation goes directly to the charity, which

raises funds for 170 non-profit children’s hospitals across the United

States and Canada.

This is the eighth year that IHOP is offering

free pancakes, and the restaurant plans to flip and serve four million

complimentary griddle cakes today.  In that time, the restaurant chain

has raised over $10 million for Children’s Miracle Network and other

local charities. It hopes to raise $3 million today.

By the way, if you think National Pancake Day is one of those newly made up holidays, think again. Pancake Day is a tradition that dates back several centuries to when the English prepared for fasting during Lent. Strict rules prohibited the eating of all dairy products during Lent, so pancakes were made to use up the supply of eggs, milk, butter and other dairy products. The day was nickmaned Pancake Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday.

Here a video of Miss America making pancakes. We can’t guaranty that a beauty queen will make your meal, but we can guaranty that you’re eating for a great cause.
