The tragic attacks at a gay club in Orlando the weekend before weren’t going to stop the party at Wilton Manors’ annual Stonewall Pride Festival, and neither was the sweltering 94-degree heat.

Instead, the LGBT community and allies showed up ready to show their pride and solidarity and have a good time while they were at it.

New Times caught up with a few of the attendees, who reflected on what it meant commemorate the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in the wake of the tragedy in Orlando.

As Tanae Johnson-Gladney, who was visiting from Chicago, put it, “We came out to support one another and show that we are strong and we will overcome. We’re not going to be intimidated.”
