For all you Davie shoppers holding your breath until Trader Joe’s opens in your backyard, please exhale and take a moment before you read the following news.

The boutique grocer with the tropical theme has delayed its opening by a few weeks. The store, located at Tower Shops at 2296 S. University Drive, will open on Friday, October 9, at 8 a.m.

The store was originally scheduled to open on September 25 but has pushed back its grand opening a few weeks because of construction delays, confirms a Trader Joe’s representative.

When it opens, the 9,300-square-foot store will carry an assortment of goodies ranging from cookie butter to fresh produce to Two Buck Chuck. The store features about 3,000 different items — most of them private-labeled. Trader Joe’s items are not only generally less expensive than supermarket brand-name products; they’re also free of artificial flavors and preservatives, contain no synthetic colors or partially hydrogenated oils, and are MSG- and GMO-free.
