The more, the merrier — this seems to be the general feeling these days regarding the South Florida food scene, where a new restaurant, café, coffee roaster, brewery, or eatery opens its doors every day.
Although July is often considered the height of summer and the depth of the “off-season,” that didn’t stop a number of new businesses from opening. It’s good down time before the seasonal influx of out-of-town temporary residents — a chance for locals to try out the new spots before the never-ending lines start forming midfall.
The openings last month were diverse as ever, from coffee roasters and cafés to poke and juice bars — even a churrascaria and a nitrogen ice cream shop. Closings came with a few surprises as several longstanding Fort Lauderdale establishments, including Johnny V’s and Café de Paris on Las Olas, shuttered their doors for good.
