As soon as news broke that Broward and Palm Beach were under a hurricane warning, public schools in both counties canceled classes. This morning, local colleges followed suit: Nova Southeastern University and Broward College announced that administrative offices would close and all classes would be canceled starting at 5 p.m. today through Monday morning. Florida Atlantic University closed at 3 p.m. today but won’t reopen until next Wednesday because of fall break.
Many students were frustrated that college administrators took their sweet time. It meant they had to decide whether to go to campus for their 9 a.m. classes this morning or head to Publix to stock up on Solo cups and pizza rolls supplies.
Here’s what they had to Tweet….
@maiahxo @BrowardCollege plz i have a trig test im not tryna take, help me out

Many handled the situation in a time-tested way: by calling out administrators on social media.
.@FloridaAtlantic would respond to #HurricaneMatthew faster if it parked in a red permit spot

They got their wish: All local colleges are now closed. Meanwhile, residence halls will remain open, so you can be sure that some epic hurricane parties are about to go down. (Or, as the teens say, IT’S GONNA BE LIT AF.)
