The Pembroke Pines Police Department has arrested a man for making a bomb threat that forced evacuations at the Pembroke Pines Social Security Office.
According to an arrest affidavit, police responded to a bomb threat made over the phone on November 20. The man, identified by Pembroke Pines Police as 42-year-old Angel Rodriguez, told the Social Security Office located at 500 N. Hiatus Road that he was going to blow up its offices.
The call was made at about 9:38 a.m. that morning, according to Pembroke Pines Police Department spokesperson Amanda Conwell.
Broward Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad and the Federal Protective Service responded to the threat, and the Social Security Office had to be evacuated.
After searching the premises, the bomb squad deemed there were no explosive devices, and employees were allowed back into the offices.
According to the affidavit, Rodriguez was tracked down to a home at 600 NE Third Avenue in Fort Lauderdale and arrested on Wednesday afternoon. After being read his Miranda rights, Rodriguez admitted to having made the call and the bomb threat, claiming that the Pembroke Pines Social Security Office owed him $2,200.
Rodriguez was arrested on making a “false report of a bomb” charge. Pembroke Pines Police are still investigating the incident.
