Well as it turns out, Fatboys Gourmet Grill (4115 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale, 954-568-5004) has confirmed what I’ve long — and I do mean long — believed: Size does matter. In fact, this burger-and-dog joint, which has its origins in the Jersey shore, takes that credo as its slogan, presenting tasty items like “The Big One,” a double cheeseburger that requires an awfully big mouth to take a bite. But that’s nothing compared to the specialty of the house: a hot dog done “Fatboy” style, which means it’s served on a fresh-baked hoagie roll with French fries underneath and a liberal topping of homemade chili, freshly sautéed onions, and melted cheddar cheese. Indeed, you can get any of the sandwiches or side dishes done with the chili/onion/cheese combo — and if you’ve never had onion rings, sweet potato French fries, or “corn on da cob” the way Fatboys does them, then you’re probably a thin boy. Not to mention a deprived one.
