Don’t call Baja Fresh Mexican Grill (7036 W. Palmetto Park Rd., Boca Raton; 561-620-9922) fast food. Yes, items like the Baja fish taco, chicken torta, steak burrito Mexicano, and side order of cebollitas (seasoned, roasted green onions) are available almost immediately. True, it’s counter service, and you can eat in or take out. Agreed: Prices rival McDonald’s, Burger Thing, et cetera. But since this national chain claims to have none of the following on the premises — can openers, microwaves, freezers, lard, MSG, and compromises — we definitely acknowledge, as the menu says, that Baja Fresh “is not your ordinary quick-service restaurant.” In fact, it reminds me of other fast-food chains in only one way: how easily it tempts you into eating too much.
