Don’t give all the credit for the explosion of interest in Latin culture to pop artists like Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez. After all quite a few artists in South Florida have displayed crossover skills for years. Take chef Guillermo Veloso, who’s now working at Martha’s (6024 N. Ocean Dr., Hollywood, 9549235444). Although he got his start at the highly regarded neo-French restaurant St. Michel in Coral Gables, the position that earned him the most kudos was his exec-chef job at YUCA (an acronym for Young Urban Cuban-Americans) on Miami Beach. Now he’s reprising his work at that renowned Latin eatery every Friday night at Martha’s, where the dishes include grilled pork tenderloin with Brazilian black-bean stew and pan-fried fillet of native snapper over sweet plantain fufu. These “Latin Nights” also feature live performances by Sabor Tropicale, so you too can live la vida loca.
