Garlic’s nutritional benefits are steeped in myth. People thought it helped them avoid getting the common cold or contracting the Plague. People also use it to repel mosquitoes, which brings up another problem: It also repels people. But it’s freakin’ delicious so who cares. Wednesday, Chef Michelle Lynn will prepare several dishes to honor the smelly relative of the onion at Cinema Paradiso’s Cinema a la Mode. There will be two-for-one drinks at 5 p.m. and Lynn will expand on the true scientific benefits of eating garlic. In keeping with the garlic theme, the theater will play Roman Polanski’s The Fearless Vampire Killers Or: Pardon Me But Your Teeth are in My Neck.

Wed., Oct. 7, 5 p.m., 2009
