Your house is laced with evidence of your raging case of A.C.P. (Activity Commitment Phobia). That treadmill you purchased to train for marathons now doubles as a laundry bin. And those Learn German in Three Weeks! CDs? Well, they make positively charming coasters. Imagine having the dedication to start training for a life-long passion during your childhood and then following it through to grown-uppedness. Who has such self-restraint and drive? Members of the Ballet Etudes, Miami’s premier school and performance troupe, that’s who.

From their effortless, gazelle-like leaps to their languidly low grand plies, these dancers are a testament to sacrifice in the name of high art. Tonight, these pliable athletes will perform time-honored works from Les Sylphides and Coppelia Act II along with original works featuring Verdi’s The Seasons as accompaniment and a new piece entitled PrimaDonna, which showcases the talents of world-renowned ballerina Dagmar Moradillos.

The “Grand Ballet Gala” starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Miramar Cultural Center (2400 Civic Center Place, Miramar). Tickets cost $25 and $30. Call 954-602-4500 or visit miramarculturalcenter.org.

Sat., Aug. 29, 7:30 p.m., 2009
