History lesson, youngsters: Before Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock ´n’ Roll,” — before rock existed — there was Pete Seeger, folk icon, and American rebel. Incidentally, Pete isn’t related to Bob — unless you count the elder Seeger’s seminal influence on subsequent generations of folksters and singer/songwriters (which you should).

Seeger has played with Woody Guthrie, been labeled a commie, written such classics as “If I Had a Hammer” and “Turn Turn Turn,” and stumped all his life for progressive causes. Clearly, a documentary is in order. Luckily, Pete Seeger: The Power of Song is showing at two SoFla theaters. On Saturday catch it at either Cinema Paradiso (503 SE Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale) or Lake Worth Playhouse (713 Lake Ave., Lake Worth). Tickets are $5-8. Call Cinema Paradiso at 954-525-3456, or visit www.fliff.com. Jingle the Lake Worth Playhouse at 561-586-6410, or visit www.lakeworthplayhouse.org.
