If you’ve ever dialed your computer’s technical support line, you probably noticed two things: the call center rep’s Apu-esque pronunciation of “motherboard” (why does it sound like “grape squishee?”), which, in turn, tips you off that he ain’t from the U.S.A. In short, dude’s got a sweet gig at Dell thanks to outsourcing – that hot-button issue where American jobs are zipped overseas and given to cheaper personnel. And that’s exactly what happens to Seattle call manager, Todd Anderson (Josh Hamilton), in the romantic comedy Outsourced.
See, Todd’s used to hocking kitschy Americana goods like cheesehead hats and Burger Branders. So when he’s dispatched to India to train the people that replaced his sacked crew, things get ironic. It’s grueling enough for Todd to school American workers in the rigors of fine Yankee salesmanship, but just imagine performing the same task for people who have no idea what a redneck is. (Ahh, the wonders of globalization.) Will Todd find a way to cope, or will he fall prey to the corporate machine?
