Before Che Guevara became a rock-star-esque rebel figure whose likeness graced T-shirts from Urban Outfitters, he was a revolutionary who helped Fidel Castro overthrow a regime in Cuba. But even before that, in 1952, he was a 23-year-old medical student who traveled through South America on his motorcycle on his way to work at a leper colony in Peru. He kept a diary of his travels, which served as the basis for the movie The Motorcycle Diaries. The film offers up gorgeous cinematography and tries to show how Guevara developed his idealistic view of the world. Soak in the beauty of the landscape, and of actor Gael Garcia Bernal, but try not to get too googly-eyed — Guevara did grow up and kill people, ya know.
