A seemingly jinxed location and two weeks of shitty weather don’t make getting a restaurant off the ground any easier, but Delray’s new Surf Sliders is putting the finishing touches on its beachfront property and hopes to succeed where its two most recent predecessors have failed.
Part of restaurateur Jim Taube’s mini-empire (Kée Grill, Cool’a
Fishbar, Jetty’s, Bimini Twist), Sliders is a casual as a pair of
flip-flops and almost as affordable. The dining room with its
half-indoor/half-outdoor bar sports giant faux-marlin leaping off the
wall, four big-screen TVs, exhibition kitchen, lots of comfy booths
inside, and tiny tables outside, where you can watch tourists walk
blindly into traffic screaming up and down A1A at East Atlantic
Avenue.
The menu is short, focused, and (mostly) inexpensive.
Sammies (fish and chicken) and (USDA prime Angus) burgers take up a lot
of real estate, followed by composed salads from Asian-style grilled
chicken to macadamia-nut-crusted grouper, a handful of starters and
sides, and specials that include filet mignon tips, pan-seared
crabcakes, and grilled salmon. Despite its name, no sliders, though.
Burgers and sammies range from $9.95 to $15.95, salads from $15.95 to
$16.95, and entrées from $16.95 to $19.95.
Open for lunch and dinner daily. Place bets on which tourist will wind up a smear on the pavement.
