Forget about misbehaved kids receiving coal
for Christmas. What if all the naughty ones
were dragged to Hell by a horned, fanged
beast? A little extreme, you think? Not to
Alpine cultures, where German folklore
dictates that right before Saint Nick arrives,
spreading all of his Yuletide cheer, a devilish
underworld creature — the half-goat, halfdemon
Krampus — stops by and takes all the
mischievous children off into the Black Forest.
The Abyss Stage is bringing this macabre
Germanic tradition to American audiences
this weekend with its local production, The
Krampus. Producers promise this fully immersive
theatrical experience will “scare the
jingle bells right off everyone,” so audiences
better be on their best behavior for the show.
Celebrate the underbelly of the holiday
season with a good festive fright this
Friday and Saturday, with two shows each
night, at 8 and 10 p.m., at the Abyss Stage,
2304 N. Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors.
