Especially with the addition of Collide Factory, the FAT Village Art District is shaping up to be a vibrant magnet for fringe culture in the warehouses located on NW 1st Ave between Sistrunk and NW 5th Street in Fort Lauderdale.
At the monthly Art Walk last Saturday night, it was all free: booze, Chex Mix, music and comraderie. No fewer than a dozen gallery spaces ranging from oversized closets to full-blown warehouses opened their doors to the community.
Music-wise: the Andrews Living Arts Studio literally opened its garage door and set up chairs in the street for a performance of pop standards, and clusters of like-minded folk mingled through the chilly air. Over at the Project Exhibition Space, music from {in boxes}, yes that’s a band name, played a widely varied set of pleasant noise rock that echoed up and down the block all night.
The next FAT Village Art Walk will be on February 26 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
