The Sing-Off, NBC’s a capella battle show, features a Fort Lauderdale native — Maurice Staple. Last week, his Alabama-based group Committed, began steady progress on the show, which features celebrity judges Ben Folds, Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman, and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.
Although the six-member crew’s musical background is mostly gospel and jazz, the show is expanding them into pop and R&B (“What if we did a Lady GaGa song?” “Nah.”). In the first episode, this meant trying Maroon 5’s “This Love.”
Since then, they’ve performed OneRepublic’s “Apologize”…
…and the Police’s “Every Breath You Take.”
If the guys win, they will receive $100,000 and a Sony Recording contract! The next show is tonight on NBC
at 8 p.m. EST, and ends with the finale on Monday, December 20. This
talented group could be the next big thing to come out of South Florida,
so make sure to watch tonight.
