American Idol season nine is finally over, and no amount of spoiler saving is going to keep you from finding out that Illinois native Lee DeWyze won the crown Wednesday night. According to a compelling assessment from the New York Times‘ Jon Caramanica, runner-up Crystal Bowersox should have been the winner. Wisely and accurately, Bowersox said after the results were announced, “we both win.” So does, apparently, indie-folk marvel Sufjan Stevens.

Because American Idol never really ends — just look at the way that all of the past winners were brought back, sans David Cook, to sing for the cranky Simon Cowell on the finale — DeWyze, Bowersox and the rest of this year’s top 10 will be clumped together in a massive nationwide tour, which we announced a few weeks ago. Tickets are on sale now to get a dose of DeWyze live at Sunrise’s BankAtlantic Center August 3.

Bonus: listen to Lee DeWyze performing R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts.”
