Don’t let the name Bad Boy Bill fool you — this guy is nice on
the turntables, which sometimes number six at a time. One of the
world’s only house DJs to compete and place in the DMC DJ
Championships, Bill is definitely a rare breed. Don’t expect any fancy
scratch tricks when he steps into the booth at Gryphon, though. Just a
packed dance floor of sweaty and excited partygoers.
Bad Boy Bill has been behind the decks for more than 25 years,
originally cutting his teeth in the pivotal Chicago House scene in the
mid- to late ’80s. Don’t be surprised to hear some custom remixes and
Bad Boy originals in the mix either. Not necessarily the most prolific
of producers, he’s still responsible for what amounts to about a single
per year since 1987, and he’s done remix work for everybody from Trent Reznor to Nelly Furtado.
Team a DJ with Bill’s stripes up with a sleekly designed, high-end
nightclub named after a mythical half-lion, half-eagle-type creature
and you’ve got a recipe for much more than just your average “house”
party.
Bad Boy Bill, 10 p.m. Friday, July 9, at Gryphon, 5711 Seminole Way, Hollywood. Tickets cost $20 at wantickets.com. Call 954-581-5454, or click here.
