Let’s see what’s happening this week in South Florida:

  • Doctors are sounding an optimistic tone about the condition of Josie Lou Riley, the 15-year-old girl who was beaten nearly to death last week by a classmate at Deerfield Beach Middle School. [Miami Herald]
  • Fitzroy Salesman goes to trial for what everybody hopes is the final time, one way or the other. The former Miramar commissioner is accused of taking bribes from an undercover informant as part of an FBI sting. [CBS4]
  • The U.S. Secret Service pitched in to bust hit-and-run driver Ryan LeVin, helping local investigators use cell phone records to pin down his location and that of Derek Cook, the Tamarac man who LeVin claimed was driving his car when the accident occurred. [Sun-Sentinel]
  • Another nightclub shooting in Palm Beach County, this time not
at El Toro Loco. This one took place at Chances nightclub in Lake Worth
early Sunday morning. Two victims, but neither had life-threatening
    injuries. [WPTV-5]
  • Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown
took a vacation back to his hometown of Atlanta and picked up a DUI for
his trouble. Who will be the team’s clean-cut corporate pitchman now? [Miami Herald]
  • The House passed some bill
that’s all “historic” and stuff. [New York Times]
