German Mendez is a biologist who works at Mack’s Fishing Camp in West Broward. Yesterday this video of Mendez was posted on YouTube by documentary makers Paul Franz and Jesse Swanson. It’s not clear whether the timing is related to this week’s Charlie Crist scandal, but it really does drive home the lonely, seemingly futile cause of those whose interest in the habitat is pure. It’s heartbreaking that the people who have the power to save the Everglades are people like Crist and George LeMieux, who would much rather exploit it for personal gain.
