No kidding. We’ve got a deal for gambling! I’m not even inclined to be critical of its terms. Like a lot of other Floridians, I’m just so bloody sick of this issue drifting back and forth between possible and impossible. This was like teeing off on a par-five hole against winds shifting in every direction. The Seminoles blowing one way, the pari-mutuels another. The House treated gambling as anathema, the Senate as free money. Then you had educators in the perverse position of lobbying for a compact that could help lift the state’s public school funding from pathetic to adequate.

The Seminoles, you can bet, will push for some extra goodies before they sign off, but that’s a formality.

The Miami Herald article comes with a handy sidebar that highlights terms of the agreement.
