Say you buy a house.
You’re probably really excited about all the cool perks that come along with home ownership (you can garden naked and nobody can say anything, you can swim in your pool naked and nobody can say anything, you can change your oil naked and nobody can say anything, you can work on your roof naked and nobody can say anything, etc.), until you realize that the slice of the pie you purchased is kind of spoiled. Turns out, large portions of your dream home were illegally built. Whoops!
That’s what Deerfield Beach resident Marlene Lopez claims happened to her.
According to a lawsuit recently filed in the Broward County Civil Court, Lopez bought a house from Campbell and Rosemurgy Real Estate. The company, real estate agents, and previous residence’s owner, she claims, knew that the sunroom and carport were constructed without a building permit — but sold it to her anyway.
Lopez now wants the company and anyone who could have possible known about the permitting problems to pay up. She needs money for lawyers, permits, and court fees to make her house legal, court docs indicate.
Campbell and Rosemurgy’s voice mail was full. The Pulp will keep trying to get comments from the brokers.
