Think of the weaponry at a mini-Renaissance fair inside a coffee shop: a sword in one hand, an iced chocolate cheesecake espresso in the other. The legend making its way around Undergrounds Coffeehaus is that the Battle of Clontarf is one of the last Viking battles. The day was April 23, the year 1014. And Underground Coffeehaus asks you, when have you celebrated the Vikings? Probably never, so it’s time, you know, Saturday, when the ’Haus is throwing an art show/costume party called “Wenches & Warriors: A Viking’s Voyage.” Throw on the chest plates and furs (incentive: People in costume get a surprise) — but you can get even more creative: Irish and Viking literature mentions that witches, goblins, and demons were also present at battle — it is war, after all.

Watch out for the South Florida Yarn Vikings, because they will be carrying around the scariest weapon of all: cameras. This night celebrating everything Viking, Norse, and Celtic will feature raffles with prizes such as a metal Viking helmet and silver Thor necklace, snacks, coffee specials, and Viking cookies. Viking films such as 13th Warrior will screen. There will be a Viking drawing contest. Your drawing utensils might be crayons, but don’t make that warrior cuddly; they want gruesome. Twenty-five artists will show works from oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings to wood Viking weaponry to crafts like yarn horns, Celtic jewelry, and wool corsets. The voyage runs from 8 p.m. to midnight at Undergrounds Coffeehaus (2743 E. Oakland Park Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). No entry fee. Call 954-630-1900.

Sat., April 23, 8 p.m., 2011
