Past and present converge, and reality and unreality collide in Harold Pinter’s acclaimed Old Times, which opens on Friday, January 31 (8pm) at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre (201 Clematis Street). Performances continue through
March 2, with specially priced previews on January 29 and 30.
In this three-character play, Kate and Deeley, a married couple, receive an unexpected visit from Kate’s old friend, Anna. The two women have not seen each other for 20 years, and Deeley and Anna have never met – or maybe they have. As the play unfolds, audiences will witness words that are undependable and memories that are unreliable. “Language . . . is a highly ambiguous business,” Pinter once wrote. “So often, below the word spoken, is the thing known and unspoken.”
