Motorcycle fellas are hulking, intimidating dudes. When you see them pass by in herds — leather tassels whipping, bandanas flapping, mischievous eyes gleaming — it’s tough to imagine them exploring their softer sides. Try as you might, you can’t envision them weeping through a romantic comedy, soaking daily stress away in a bubble bath, or asking one another to share intimate details regarding their relationship perils. But one weakness that they will fall prey to is the soulful eyes of a loyal pup. That’s right, give a Harley rider a Pekinese and just watch his heart melt — before you know it the furry little guy is sharing his master’s hamburgers and riding happily along in the saddlebags. (Note: we don’t condone dogs of any size riding in saddle bags; they come out smelling all leathery.)
Today all of those secret softies are combining forces to raise some needed dough for the Humane Society of Broward at Harley Dog Days. It’s multifaceted, so if you’re more a “rider type” than a “society type,” cruise along during the morning motorcycle ride. Check-in is at 8 a.m. and around 9:30 everyone will start the trek out to Singer Island; the ride is police escorted and all involved will chow down on lunch at the end of the ride.
Want to win a 2008 Harley Davidson Road-King? Buy a raffle ticket! Only 500 are being sold ($100 a piece), so the odds of you riding home a winner are pretty darn good.
