Oh, art — that indeterminable and elusive thing — that which, like beauty, exists only in the eye of the beholder. One man’s art is another man’s refuse. Art. What is it good for?

Art is meant to be communication. And a lot of times, artists get away with being obscure and weird — by simply claiming that you, the receiver of the art, are simply not appreciating it.
Maybe, if given the chance, artists would like to shed more light on their art.

This, in part, seems to be the inspiration behind the latest FAT Village Art Walk called “Self Lit.” Spread between 18 Rabbit Gallery and the Projects alternative art space, each piece on display must include its own light source, whether that means the artist merely provides the lighting or light is the medium itself.
The free art walk is from 7 to 10 p.m. and located along NW First Avenue between Fifth Street and Sistrunk Boulevard. For more information, contact 18 Rabbit Gallery (17 NW Fifth St., Fort Lauderdale) by emailing 18rabbitgallery@gmail.com, calling 954-826-3113, or visiting 18rabbitgallery.com — where you will also find a useful map of FAT Village.

Sat., March 26, 7 p.m., 2011
