It wasn’t like Matisse to suffer burnout and lose interest in a subject. He was actually remarkable for his perseverance, and the results are here to see in the “Matisse in Transition: Around Laurette.” The exhibit features roughly 20 paintings from 1916 to 1919, all focused on a single subject (that would be Laurette, of course).
