If neighborhood Christmas-light tours, curbside caroling, and cups of eggnog shared among friends sounds like something of a naive, Rockwellesque era (or at the very least an era before there was the possibility of Googling your neighbor’s criminal past or viewing potentially damning Facebook posts), it may be time to shake off the deeply held cynicism and get into the cheery holiday spirit with the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society’s Holiday Twilight Tour. It turns out, you can return to this ghost of neighborly Christmases past as the society’s docent-led tour moseys through Fort Lauderdale’s Historic District to admire the holiday lights and decorations with special attention to the New River Inn property and the Cromartie House. The tour will come to a close with cookies, carols, and eggnog on the porch. The Holiday Twilight Tour begins Thursday at 6 p.m. at 231 SW Second Ave., Fort Lauderdale, with a $10 fee for nonmembers. The tour is just one of several events the Broward-based nonprofit is hosting this month. Other events include a holiday craft fair and a holiday lights boat tour along the river.
