Have you ever wanted an excuse to run in your underwear? If so, you’re in luck! Encouraging the practice of turning your underwear into outerwear in a family-friendly fashion, the Colon Cancer Alliance is hosting the Greater Fort Lauderdale Undy 5000 Two-Mile Fun Run/Walk to raise awareness and funds for people struggling with colon cancer. In order for the community to recognize such efforts, the Undy 5000 provides participants with a stylish pair of boxers while offering an opportunity to stroll through a larger-than-life inflatable colon to better understand the disease. Although suggested attire is signified in the name of the event, the Undy 5000 passes no judgment by allowing participants to dress in any appropriate manner they see fit. Get ready to see some cool underwear and some crazy costumes! In 2013 alone, the Greater Fort Lauderdale area experienced 1,652 diagnoses and 619 colon cancer deaths. Since colon cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in the U.S., this year’s event will support both local and national efforts of the Colon Cancer Alliance. National efforts include prevention, research, and patient support initiatives.
