Celebrating its 40-year anniversary, lively sexual comedy Let My People Come stands as relevant today as it did back in 1974, when it premiered at the Village Gate Theater on Bleecker Street in NYC’s Greenwich Village. What with today’s climate of court rulings on gay marriage, Andrew Living Arts couldn’t have picked a better time to stage a revision of this enlightening (and revealing) comical revue. This romp explores sexual liberation and acceptance and is not intended for the prude at heart, as cast members will perform some scenes au naturel. The full-frontal nudity (female and male) is unveiled not merely for shock value, mind you, but to provoke thoughts on the human condition and the search for deeper connections in an age dominated by technology and ambiguity. The show is not consumed entirely by metaphysical thoughts, though; there are tons of laughs packed into whimsical numbers such as “Screw,” “I’m Gay,” and “Doesn’t Anybody Love Anymore?” with a few new numbers — like “Scandals Saloon” — written by creator Earl Wilson Jr. just for Fort Lauderdale audiences. Courageous audience members are invited to participate in ad-lib interviews regarding their own sexuality and take part in a salacious game of sex trivia.
This sexual musical escapade starts Friday for an unlimited run at Andrews Living Arts, located at 23 NW Fifth St. in Fort Lauderdale. It’s for those 18 and over only. Tickets cost $29.95. Visit andrewslivingarts.com, or call 954-874-5084.

Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Aug. 8. Continues through Sept. 7, 2014
