Last month, several reports had the Miami Heat getting Amare Stoudemire from Phoenix at the NBA trade deadline. The Heat was also in serious 11th-hour negotiations with Utah for the services of Carlos Boozer.

Both deals, of course, served to show
Dwyane Wade the team’s commitment to compete for an NBA title, so as to not see him playing in a Knicks uniform next season. But neither deal came to fruition, mainly because Pat Riley refused to part with Michael Beasley. And that may have been the best move of all.

For now, we’ll have to go with what we’ve got against the world champion Lakers tonight at the American Airlines Arena (601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami). Tip-off is at 8. Tickets start at $10 at nba.com/heat.
