Trick-or-treating is great until you reach puberty and you start receiving those quizzical stares from neighbors for stampeding around the street in your seventh-grade Tinkerbell costume. And since trick-or-treating requires arduous cardio and the subsequent binge on candy, it seems more enjoyable to spend the evening in air-conditioning and watching vintage horror movies anyway.
The 1978 classic gore film Dawn of the Dead will be featured at Splatterama on Cinema Paradiso’s projector screen the way it was intended to be seen and not on some sketchy site on your laptop. Watch zombie heads explode, munch on some buttered popcorn, and make it an evening you’ll never forget. Or if you would rather not remember it, there will be a happy hour that, despite its name, lasts all night and boasts $2 beers. Cash prizes, theater membership, and gift certificates will be awarded to the most creative costumes. And even if you don’t win, there will be lots of Halloween candy to share.
Celebrate the new American Halloween tradition at Cinema Paradiso, located at 503 SE Sixth St. in Fort Lauderdale. Admission is $5. Call 954-525-3456, or visit fliff.com.
