There’s a strange fundraiser sponsored by the Lighthouse Center for
the Arts in Tequesta. Every guest goes home with a piece of art. But
they have to run for it — specifically, sprint through the gallery
like crazed shoppers on a Black Friday. At this year’s Fourth Annual
D’art for Art Fundraiser, 100 works valued at a total of $100,000
will be on display — and then up for grabs — as MC and WJTW-FM
(100.3) announcer Kathy Greene gets people on their marks, blows a
whistle, and sends them careening through the exhibition to claim
pieces of art. Attendees get cocktails, dinner, and “a work of art as
the ultimate party favor” for a ticket costing $250. Not bad if you
consider that some of the pieces could be worth much more. There’s
also a silent auction for various goodies: a weeklong trip to
Manhattan, tickets to a Dolphins game, an autographed copy of Alec
Baldwin’s new book, a Neiman Marcus makeup class, a Warholian
portrait session, and lots else.
D’art for Art is from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Lighthouse Center
for the Arts (Gallery Square North, 373 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta).
