The free, quarterly indie mag WeMerge Magazine thrives when it comes to promoting local artists. Case in point: It held a cover-art contest for its eighth issue, which will be released June 1. The winner was Japanda, and now not only will her art don the cover but WeMerge plans to promote the hell out of her — starting at its music/art event Saturday at Propaganda, where Japanda will live paint. It’s billed as WeMerge’s Release Party, but, really, there’s going to be plenty more release parties throughout the summer. Because how do you keep a quarterly ’zine current? Release party, release party, release party — it’s a smart concept — and all of these parties will feature Japanda. Joining her at Propaganda will also be body-painter Raquel McInnis, who painted a rad guitar on a model at the last (at time of print) WeMerge Thursday, a weekly open-mic night filled with artists and music and liquor at Kevro’s Art Bar. Saturday, McInnis will bring her own model or two and will paint away as you get to watch while sipping a vodka tonic — that’s prime people watching! Bands Speaking Volumes, the People Upstairs, and Sumsun will perform. And of course, the man behind WeMerge, Renda Writer, open-mic host extraordinaire, will be present too. No cover. Release party starts at 8 p.m. at Propaganda (6 S. J St., Lake Worth). Call 561-547-7273, or visit propagandalw.com. Also visit wemergetalent.com.

Sat., June 5, 8 p.m., 2010
