When it comes to comedy shows, man cannot live on bread alone. Some places have taken the time to include more amenities. One such place, Bar Stache 1920’s Drinking Den, has teamed up with Recycled Jude to bring RJ Art Junkies: Stache of Laughs. It’s more than just a guy with a monologue. The show starts with a cocktail hour and segues into arts and crafts. It continues well into the night with a little comedy hosted by Kel Thompson and then some live music. You will be surrounded by food trucks and pop-up markets to keep your belly full and your wallet empty. It’s an ongoing event that happens on the first and second Thursday of the month.

This month’s first comedy show is happening at 5 p.m. Thursday at Bar Stache, located at 109 SW Second Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. There is no cover charge for the event, but you must be at least 21 to enter. Call 954-449-1044.

It’s that time of the year: The New Year’s resolutions have been set in unbreakable pinky-swear fashion, and the whirlwind of family/friends/work/neighbors’ holiday functions and ugly-sweater parties has ground to a halt. So how about something a little different to help you segue out of the holiday season? At the Historic Stranahan House Museum, guests are invited to do just that with its Holiday Hangover party this Thursday. “It’s really just a fun, after-holidays chance to get together. It’s purely social, and it’s the first 2016 event for us,” says April Kirk, executive director of the Historic Stranahan House Museum. For a $25 entry fee, guests unwind in a lush and historic setting and sample eats by area spots like Gino’s Italian Market, Temple Street Eatery, and Bob Roth’s New River Groves while taking advantage of an open bar, courtesy of Premier Liquors. There will be raffles for the evening, all of the “experience” variety, so think prize levels of a ten-person painting class, a 5K training session, or a 25-person party at the museum. A photo booth, Bluefoot Pirate Adventures shenanigans, and Cycle Party roving bar crawl representatives round out the night.

Holiday Hangover is a rain-or-shine event, so back-up tents are available should weather be a factor, 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at 335 SE Sixth Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-524-4736, or visit stranahanhouse.org.

Dave Rupp returns with the Fort Lauderdale Beach Collector Car Show and Auction, and this year’s show promises to be bigger and better than last’s. With a reputation already established through years of hard work, this car show and auction boasts one of the largest consigned auctions in the United States, with dealers from 17 countries showcasing some of the best antique, muscle, and collector vehicles in the market right now. From intricately rebuilt and restored pre-World War II Packards and Cadillacs to funky curios like the ’61 Renault Jolly (one of 12 known models), a ’28 “Red Bug” Runabout – once the hallmark of Palm Beach’s rich and famous – and a ’69 Velorex, the auction comes stocked with blue-blood pedigree. But say you’re looking for something a little more modern. There are a number of Corvettes spanning the desirable ’60s through the undulating chassis of the ’70s, and if the cocaine-fueled excess of the ’80s is more your style, there are plenty of Ferraris listed that would make Sonny Crockett flip his wig. And if you’re not planning on adding to your garage, the car show itself is a great event for the whole family to enjoy.

The Fort Lauderdale Beach Collector Car Show and Auction will take place at the Fort Lauderdale War Memorial Auditorium, Holiday Park, 800 NE Eighth St., Fort Lauderdale, from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Adult admission is $15 and $5 for children under 12 years old. For an auction brochure and information, visit ftlauderdaleauction.com or call 561-779-0302.

Funky Buddha Brewery’s megapopular Maple Bacon Coffee Porter is back. Cue the ceremonial trumpet sounds in your head, don your cape, and get energized for the latest MBCP release party. Like Kill Bill and Mockingjay, the Las Olas Art Fair cannot be contained in just one part. Demand for the top-rated January fair has long exceeded the supply of vendors, prompting a continuation of the fun and commerce at the end of March. Unlike those epic movies, however, there’s no epic story arc to follow, just the long, sprawling double row of more than 100 artists selling paintings, photography, sculpture, jewelry, glass art, and more. A few unique highlights to look out for in this month’s installment: the natural-stone furniture of Eileen Counihan, the intricate metal mantelpieces of George Gabriel, the Asiatic raku pottery of Bill Herb, and the clothing of fashion designer Herion Park, which fuses urban and bucolic influences. It’s safe to say that with 27 years of organizing this signature downtown gathering, Howard Alan Events has the formula down to a science. Expect few tacky craftspeople and many formidable artists representing the best of the Sunshine State and beyond.

Admission to the 28th-annual Las Olas Art Fair (Part 1!) is free, and it runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday along the boulevard; for GPS directions, start at 600 E. Las Olas Blvd. It’s recommended that you arrive before 10 a.m. to find parking, which of course runs at a premium. Call 561-746-6615, or visit artfestival.com

Every new year, we all go on about changes we wish to initiate: to work out more often, to eat better, to make more money, to leave an unsatisfying job, to find love, to appreciate the little things. Most of these changes are centered on improving one’s conditions. That’s great and all – happy people are more likely to impact the rest of the world in a positive way – but resolving to make your life better is still a little on the selfish side. Why not bring love into your world while saving a life? Literally. Head to the New Year’s New Friend Adoption event to bring home a furry friend. Big Dog Ranch Rescue is going to the market with some of its pups that are looking for homes. Meet a pup like Cody, a happy 2-year-old lab who loves to lick and go on walks. Or Rebel, a 3-year-old hound mix who knows “come” and all his basic commands. Multitask while you’re there. The market offers fresh, locally grown produce that’s perfect for filling up salads and juicers on that January health binge. It’s the perfect way to take care of yourself and your new furry family.

The event takes place from noon to 3 p.m. There is no cost to attend. The event takes place at Bedners Farm Fresh Market, located at 10066 Lee Road in Boynton Beach. Visit BDRR.org

If you’ve watched a fair amount of television over the past 20 years, Mo Rocca’s bespectacled visage and salt-and-pepper hair has been difficult to miss. The Harvard graduate arrived on most viewers’ radars with his election dispatches from The Daily Show‘s seminal “Indecision 2000” coverage, and he is arguably the only Daily Show alum to successfully transition into straight news, as a correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning. He’s also skewered politicos on Countdown With Keith Olbermann, riffed on pop-culture for VH1’s I Love the… series, and even cameoed on a pair on of Law & Order spinoffs. For the past four years, he’s been discovering culinary delicacies from abuelas across the globe – such as beer-battered chitterlings and pickled shark – as part of My Grandmother’s Ravioli on the Cooking Channel. But his greatest television appearance is surely his completely irony-free reading of Pope Francis’ first lector – in Latin, no less – last fall at Madison Square Garden, becoming the first openly gay man to do so. With such a diverse trove of life experiences from which to choose, expect his current speaking tour to be as eclectic as he is: It’s titled “From the Constitution to the Kitchen.”

See Rocca perform it at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Broward Center, located at 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $50.84. Call 954-462-0222, or visit browardcenter.org

Being able to have locally made craft beer is a blessing. Now you’ll get to meet some of the guys behind the magic. Wynwood Brewing Co.’s Nik Mebane and David Rodriguez are coming to the Craft Beer Cartel as part of the monthly Meet the Brewer series, and they’re bringing beer. Both carry years of experience and deep knowledge of the local beer industry. Before coming to WBC, Mebane was making beer at the now-defunct Gordon Biersch restaurant in Brickell. Before that, he was getting started in State College, Pennsylvania. A Miami original, Rodriguez managed the tasting room at Schnebly Winery and Brewery. He is one of the founders of BREW FIU, a local collegiate brewing club and incubator for the local industry. Together, they are bringing WBC’s Cup of Jose, a coffee porter brewed with local Panther Coffee and Apple of My Eye-P-A, a hoppy India pale ale with notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and tart apple. A craft-beer-only market, the Craft Beer Cartel is a new venue in Fort Lauderdale to showcase what’s new in the region’s relatively new beer economy. Have a few beers with Mebane and Rodriguez, and talk shop. When it’s all over, head across the street to Riverside Market for a WBC tap takeover.
