Frenchify your life now. The Eighth Annual French Film Festival (sponsored, of course, by Perrier) is unrolling French cinema for four days. The opening soiree at 6 p.m. on Friday packs a smorgasbord of French cuisine: coq au vin, beef bourguignon, lobster bisque, potato soufflé, and, for dessert, profiteroles. On all counts, yum. The feasting is followed by Hello Goodbye, a romantic comedy.
In all, 12 films are showing and three should be double underlined. Le Chant Des Mariees centers of Muslim-Jewish harmony, an incestuous marriage, and a secret jealousy between two girls in 1942, Vichy-ruled Tunis. A Pain in the Ass follows both a recently divorced, suicidal depressive and an assassin plotting an imminent contract kill as the two hook up through adjoining hotel rooms. Then there’s Towards Zero, about a Frenchman’s idea to unite his wife and ex-wife at his aunt’s house. The aunt soon ends up murdered.
