What a way to end a festival! ArtsUnited’s 11th annual, 15-day ArtExplosion LGBT fest concludes Saturday at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts with a guest lecture from Dan Savage. The pioneering sex advice columnist (“Savage Love” is his frank, edgy baby), author, and gay activist is on most hipsters’ perpetual short-list for Coolest Person in the World in this or any year. But 2010 was a particularly good one for Savage, thanks to launching of his “It Gets Better” project, an inspirational online video channel dedicated to reassuring bullied gay teenagers. “We had [Savage] booked way before he and his partner started the ‘It Gets Better’ project,” says Peter Meyerhoefer, board president of ArtsUnited. “It was just lucky timing on our part.” Savage will speak about a number of various subjects; the program begins at 8 p.m. at the Broward Center’s Amaturo Theater (201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale). Admission is $25 to $35. Call 954-462-0222, or visit browardcenter.org.
