Whether it's the Care Bears or some made-for-TV version, chances are you're quite familiar with The Nutcracker and its classic score, even if you don't realize it. The Nutcracker is about a young girl named Clara who embarks on a multitude of adventures with her beloved Christmas present, a nutcracker. Their journey is filled with lots of obstacles and rewards as they battle the Mouse King, and follow the Queen of Snow through the Land of Sweets to experience the magic of the Sugarplum Fairy.
Vladimir Issaev, artistic director of the Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida, is hosting a deviation for those who are used to Balanchine's version. Issaev's approach preserves the Russian tradition by featuring the music of P.I. Tchaikovsky. Furthermore, he strives to not only re-create but also amplify the experience of The Nutcracker by incorporating a host of special effects, such as falling snow and a growing Christmas tree.
