It’s a brand new season for the Florida Panthers. Rather than dwell on how the Cats didn’t make any big free agent splashes in the offseason to offset the loss of Jay Bouwmeester (sorry Jordan Leopold), or how many home fans show up to their games, let’s take a minute to talk about the positives. The buzz around the league is that the Panthers might be ready to take the next step. Their young talent like Weiss, Booth, and Frolik all had career years thanks to Peter DeBoer. Tomas Vokoun is an upper echelon goalie, and Bryan McCabe is ready to step up and wear the C this year. So if the Cats are ready to take the next step, they’ll have to be able to compete with powerhouses like the Philadelphia Flyers, whom they play tonight at 7:30. The Flyers can roll four scoring lines, have a scary power play, and brought in Chris Pronger to roam the blue lines and destroy anyone foolish enough to cross his path. Tickets start at $10.
