Quite a few television shows have a “musical” episode. Cop Rock may have been a huge dud, but programs like Buffy, Oz, and Scrubs have relied on strange, but popular musical renditions. It makes you wonder what a musical version of The Sopranos would have been like. Imagine: Tony Soprano singing to a fish head as Big Pussy howlingly admits he has been working for the feds as an aside.

While John Turturro’s new film, the musical Romance and Cigarettes, doesn’t star Tony Soprano, it does star his alter-ego, James Gandolfini. Joined by an amazing cast, Gandolfini plays a working-class husband torn between his wife (Susan Sarandon) and his lover (Kate Winslet). And, like many of the classic musicals we know and love, his predicament can only be solved through the magic of song and dance. And Christopher Walken.
