One immediate difference between the photography that is typically classified as art and the sort that is viewed by following links in twitter posts is that the latter variety is not usually displayed in brick-and-mortar galleries. For that matter, images captured with iPhones and Androids rarely adorn any walls outside the realm of Facebook. The Instagram Art Gallery at C&I Studios is set to interrupt that trend, as it is comprised entirely of prints of smart-phone photos uploaded to Instagram with the hashtag #ciphototoday. No DSLR shots allowed.
For each day during April, there is a given category for participants to explore artistically with the help of their sleek, mobile device. Some categories, like "Self Portrait," "Food," and "Favorite Drink," ought to be familiar territory for many avid Instagram users. While other categories, like "Dream," "Hope," and "First Love," may be cause for a more contemplative approach. The prints will be available to take home for a small donation, which will benefit the Help Portrait Charity Event to be put on by Crossway Church this coming December.
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free to attend. C&I Studios is located at 541 NW First Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-357-3934 or visit c-istudios.com.
