And Into the Light

Any cause of death is tragic, but loss by way of suicide is particularly wrenching. You are left with unanswered questions and countless "what ifs." East Broward Out of the Darkness strives to raise awareness while raising money for suicide prevention programs and helping loved ones looking for a way to cope. It does this through awareness walks, but this isn't your basic donate and run. Out of the Darkness includes numerous activities at its events as a way to band people together for a good cause. Donation levels vary based on your fundraising goals: For a $50, walkers can dedicate a sign to a loved one that will be placed along the route. A donation of $150 includes a T-shirt. This event will feature "Let's Stop Suicide in Its Tracks" -- a call for everyone to bring a symbolic pair of shoes to the walk to show that suicide can be stopped and no one is left alone. The Out of the Darkness East Broward County Walk begins Sunday at 10 a.m. at Riverwalk, located at 305 S. Andrews Ave., Suite 410, in Fort Lauderdale. The price to participate is simple -- however much you would like to donate. Visit, or call 954-257-9394.
