Baby Got Bike

Two issues the average American struggles with are going green and staying lean. And although our addiction to cars and carbs has made those goals difficult to attain, it certainly can’t hurt to start bike riding. But what kind of bike? And what about maintenance? Bike clubs? Bueller? Fret not — this weekend’s 2010 South Florida Bike Expo is the event for bike enthusiasts and newbies alike. There’ll be thousands of bikes and accessories as well as a free bike giveaway every two hours, more than a dozen vendors on hand, a BMX demo (with pros Nigel Sylvester and Lennie Westfall), a spinning demo (exercise bikes), industry experts, and a fashion show straight out of a Style Council video (OK, so probably not).

The expo is set for Saturday and Sunday at War Memorial Auditorium (800 NE Eighth St., Fort Lauderdale). Admission is free. Doors open at 9 a.m. each day. Call 954-828-5380, or visit southfloridabikeexpo.com.
Sat., July 17, 9 a.m.; Sun., July 18, 9 a.m., 2010
