Bachelor Pads, Master Pieces

To some, student artwork means painting fraternity letters on a beer bong and naming it Sir Chugs-A-Lot. To others, like the 2008 graduating class of FAU’s Department of Fine Arts, it’s a description of a journey that’s taken them four years to complete. Well, today at the Ritter and Schmidt Galleries at FAU (777 Glades Rd., Boca Raton), students receiving their Bachelor and Master degrees in fine arts will be showcasing the culmination of their scholarly endeavors for all to see. The BFA show, “Peripheral Vision” – featuring the work of over 20 students, spanning the gamut from oil on canvas to sculpture – will open in the Ritter Gallery Thursday at 7 p.m. and show until May 2. Students will also be on hand at the reception to discuss their pieces and answer questions. The MFA show, rooted heavily in abstract, black and white work (see Georgeta Fondos’ On the Other Side, a cloth canvas molded and scorched entirely by flames) runs Friday, April 18 through May 29. Admission is free. Contact the galleries at 561-297-2966, or visit www.fau.edu/galleries.
