Beauty Is in the Eye of the Beauty Editor

Not only did Jean Godfrey June land her dream job (beauty editor), she landed it at Lucky magazine, a rag that’s all about shopping. She’s written a book about the highs of her work (writing “something that people read and respond to” and enlisting friends to help experiment with new products) and its lows (“trying on perfumes when I had horrible morning sickness”). Godfrey June’s book is called Free Gift with Purchase: My Improbable Career in Magazines and Makeup, and she’ll promote it during a book signing from noon to 2 p.m. today in the Bath & Body Works at the Towne Center mall (6000 West Glades Rd., Boca Raton). Ask, and you will receive her beauty advice (She tells New Times that the ladies of SoFla should “try to embrace your natural hair texture. You CAN find a supermodel who has your hair. The grass isn't always greener, especially when it's 100 percent humidity. This time of year, curly hair blown-dry straight is going to puff out and look weird, and straight hair is going to have a hard time retaining much curl.” Attendees will indeed receive a free gift (C.O. Bigelow lemon body cream) with a purchase of the book. Call 561-368-6774.
