Function well, beer drinkers, because Oakland Parks annual Oktoberfest has returned. Jaco Pastorius Park, at the corner of Dixie Highway and NE 38th Street in Oakland Park, will transform into a Bavarian Village celebration, full of accordion players, flag dancers, and classic Volkswagens. Hans Huber, owner of Ambrys German restaurant, will provide grub like bratwurst, spicy currywurst, and chicken schnitzel. Polka dance melodies and yodeling contestants will fill the air with oompah. A competition will have contestants rolling beer barrels around a course, but remember mowing down spectators results in point lost. (Safety first! Even Homer is a family man.) This beercation kicks off Saturday at 11 a.m. Admission costs 2 bucks for adults; kids get in free. Visit oaklandparkmainstreet.com.
