Bingo Star

You’re biting your fingernails. “It’s Raining Men” vibrates from the DJ booth. You finish your martini as a drag queen strolls by and asks if you need another. “Hallelujah! It’s raining men! Amen!” Yes, you tell the waitress, but only one more.

Before it arrives, the DJ calls out “A7” like an echoing train conductor. “A7!” You shout “Bingo” but the music is too loud, and you’re too drunk. “BINGO!!” The music stops. A drag queen comes to check your board. “She’s good,” she calls to the DJ. You’ve won another martini.

Every Thursday night, The Lounge (517 Clematis Street, West Palm Beach) transforms into this bingo egalitarian wonderland of disco, drag queens, bingo, 20-somethings, 30-somethings, and grandmas. Admission is free, bingo starts at 9, and from 9 to 11, drinks are only a buck. Call 561-655-9747, or visit myspace.com/debutante1.
