Blowin’ Up

Auteur Explosion — that monthly carnival for all things artistic and off-kilter — is back in action Saturday night at 9 p.m. for the latest in its series of local, indie gatherings. This time around, local jazz-funk outfit the Seeds of Evolution open up the night with a set of tracks that conjures early era Red Hot Chili Peppers. Later on: The Craven, a synth-driven, new wave project from South Florida stalwart, Timb Krueller; and Astari Night, a spacey quartet that tips its hat to the drone of Sonic Youth. In addition to the good tunes, the tantalizing vixens of Shameless Burlesque will hop on stage sporting some strategically-placed tassels, while art exhibits from Jerry LaVigne Jr., the Art of the Soul, and J. Vinazza will keep folks talking in between sets. At midnight the short films take over, with screenings of Revenge of the B-Girl$, a grindhouse revenge flick that shows some love to the genre, and The Making of Death Print, a someday-DVD-extra chronicling Miami director Aiden Dillard’s magnum opus. Admission will run you only $5; simply head to Cinema Paradiso at 503 SE Sixth St. in Fort Lauderdale. For more info, visit
